Some ISPs don't have the best routing information. I don't know if this is as relevant as it once was any more, because more and more illicit and P2P traffic, as well as just day to day https, has went encrypted. Now, that only would be of a benefit if the node your going through is congested sufficiently enough that the router had a pretty deep queue of packets, and that in and of itself is going to impact your ping, but theoretically, having an encrypted packet would put you closer to the head of the line and help reduce that impact. I have read that some ISPs and backbone providers will prioritize encrypted traffic in their traffic shaping.

Software can't speed up light, but that doesn't necessarily mean it can't help. While I was hoping this necro thread would die back down, there are a few truths:
It only cares that you aren't close enough and that causes melee attacks to fail. The server doesn't care if someone was close enough to you 150ms ago, even though you didn't see them move away. It does not allow any tolerance for latency. I am surprised nobody has acknowledged the issue being with AoC's server code. You can use a different route, but in this case, 150ms is probably as low as you will get from Spain to the US. If the problem is somewhere on the internet, you can't fix it. You might reduce your ping by 5ms on average, but it won't fix the problem. Relating the two is a mistake, like saying my car can go 100 MPH so it must have fast acceleration.Īgain, people are suggesting tweaks to the registry and local computer when the problem is not there. It didn't "speed up" your data it only routed you around the congestion.Īlso, your bandwidth of 8Mbps means nothing in terms of connection quality. The proxy server only gives you an alternative route. Either way, the traffic had to travel from point A to point B. By paying for Battleping, you likely connected through a nearby proxy server which had a much better route across the ocean. As you experienced, sometimes the route chosen by your low-quality ISP can be overcrowded, which causes high pings. If you had a 150 ping from Dubai to the US, I would say Battleping wouldn't help.ĭistance isn't the only factor which causes a high ping. Such softwares can have either huge impact or insignificant impact, depending on your quality connection and the cause of your lag, now like previous people said, ping is distance factor, if infact the distance is quite far between you and game server, nothing can save you unless you move closer, how battleping helped me ? well my ISP routes its traffic through 3-4 countries in the Middle East before letting it go to its destination address, battleping only changes that routing directly to game server instead of usual way, but if i for example want to play DOTA2 or LoL ON AUSTRALIA from dubai, i will still get huge ping regardless of what i use because distance is too great.

I must say you're mistaken, i used to play on aion EU from DUBAI, i had 8MB fibre optic connection so theoretically i should get great ping, but i used to get 700-1k constant lag and yes that was normal, no software issues/connection etc, i heard about battleping, back when it was in open beta test ( was free to use ) and it helped me so much, my ping dropped from 700~ to 250~, i shit you not, i finally was able to pvp, rift and actually experience the game nicely, bk to OP. At best, it can perform certain tweaks to optimize your network card, but it can not affect the time it takes for your data to travel across the internet.
Software like this can't reduce your ping by any significant amount. Originally posted by syntax42 Originally posted by Rosenborgīattleping might help, haven't tried it myself though.
